Four score and seven years ago, our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived, can long endure. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us. That government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

Há oitenta e sete anos, nossos pais fundaram neste continente uma nova nação, concebida em liberdade, e dedicada à proposição de que todos os homens são criados iguais. Agora estamos envolvidos em uma grande guerra civil, testando se esta nação, ou qualquer nação assim concebida, pode durar. Cabe a nós nos dedicarmos à grande tarefa que temos pela frente.
